DESCRIPTION:Song Sung True: A Veteran’s View – featuring the stories and original music of US Marine Corps Veteran\, Derek Thompson. Derek served two tours in Afghanistan’s Helmand Province. After his military service\, he went on to become a firefighter where\, for ten years he fought fires and saved lives. Later he worked arduously as a coal miner doing the kind of tasks which reinforced his versatility and work ethic. His physical prowess and determination led him to the world of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA)\, where he competed and showcased his acquired skills and fighting spirit. Derek has always had a deep passion for music. As a country songwriter\, he channels his experiences and emotions into songs that speak to the struggles and triumphs of life. DESCRIPTION:G4v is so excited to be back with Rachel Harvey Hill to teach us about songwriting! \nRachel was a recent guest on the G4v/CAVARTS  Song Sung True series where we learned that she has written over 700 songs! \nShe has offered to share an hour with us delving into why she loves song writing and how she approaches the craft of creating original music on the guitar; including the four tactics she uses to start the creative process.  \nRachel is a Nashville based songwriter whose writing style has been described as “heart-warming” and “imaginative”. Her multi-genre song catalog is influenced by her strong faith\, her life as a military spouse\, and her journey of motherhood.  Rachel is a Bluebird Cafe “Golden Pick” winner and  has been recognized as a “Ones to Watch” by the Nashville Songwriters Association International. Additionally\, she was the 2019 winner of the pop/rock category in the New England Songwriters Competition for her song “Like Lightning.”  \nCheck out Rachel’s newest release\, the haunting Barkley Lake.
